100% First-Year Internships: How NEXIS Makes Students Industry-Ready in Siliguri

Career Outcomes

At most colleges, internships start in the final year. In its very first year, NEXIS School of Business placed 100% of students who wanted an internship — and 95% of those were paid.

When NEXIS School of Business was founded in Siliguri, the promise was simple but bold: students should leave industry-ready, not needing to start from scratch — whether they join a job, scale a family business, or build a startup. The first proof of that promise arrived faster than anyone expected. Through the NEXIS Summer Internship Drive 2026, every student who wanted an internship landed one — in the first year of the programme.

The result: internships in year one, not year three

In traditional degree colleges, internships and placements typically begin in the third year. NEXIS flipped that timeline. Its Career Development team, led by Sanskar Singh, launched the Summer Internship Drive three months in advance and secured roles for students in their first year itself — with the majority being paid internships.

The team also matched students to roles by interest rather than availability, and stays in touch with both students and companies for feedback. So far, that feedback has been consistently positive — a signal that the industry-ready model is working as intended.

“This isn’t just numbers for us. It’s the result of a vision we had when we laid the foundation of NEXIS — that our students walk out industry-ready.”

Where NEXIS students interned

NEXIS onboarded 25+ partner companies — a mix of respected national brands and fast-growing Siliguri businesses — so students could gain exposure across marketing, operations, finance, technology and entrepreneurship.

National brands

  • ITC Foods — one of India’s largest FMCG names
  • Doodhvale Farms — a Gurugram-based D2C brand that recently raised significant funding
  • Shutup Marketing — a Mumbai-based real-estate marketing agency
  • Campus Fund — a venture scout that funds student entrepreneurs

Siliguri & North Bengal businesses

  • Bounce — a newly opened co-working space
  • StratWings and Arcadian — digital-marketing agencies
  • TAK Engineers and GFS Realtors — engineering and real estate

Good to knowAbout 90% of first-year internships were sourced by the NEXIS Career Development team. The rest were scouted by students themselves — exactly the initiative NEXIS wants to build, since reaching out to companies teaches real skills like cold emailing and professional networking.

How the curriculum makes students internship-ready

An internship offer is the outcome; the curriculum is the engine. NEXIS designed its programme specifically to bridge the industry–skill gap that recruiters complain about. A few things make the difference:

  • Domain experts teach, not just lecturers. Accounting is taught by a qualified CA; every subject is led by someone who has done the job.
  • Weekly masterclasses bring industry leaders on campus to share how business actually works beyond the textbook.
  • Capstone projects push students to execute what they’ve learned with real local businesses — not just answer exam questions.
  • Employability skills — CV building, Tally, and a strong LinkedIn presence — are built into the courses, because a great LinkedIn profile opens doors nationally and internationally.
  • A first-semester Local Business Consulting (LBC) course has students analyse a real company’s problems and propose solutions the business can implement.

Why internships from the first year matter

NEXIS wants students to complete three to four internships across three years — deliberately, and early. The logic is about self-discovery, not just a resume line. When students intern from the first year, they learn where their real interests and strengths lie long before they have to commit to a career. By the time third-year internships arrive, a student who discovered a love for marketing can target a marketing role with genuine conviction.

Key takeaways
  • 100% of NEXIS students who wanted an internship secured one in year one; 95% were paid.
  • 25+ partner companies span national brands (ITC Foods, Doodhvale, Campus Fund) and Siliguri businesses.
  • Domain-expert teaching, weekly masterclasses and real consulting projects drive the results.
  • The goal is 3–4 internships across 3 years, starting early — so students discover what they’re great at.
